In order to speak about rooms and furniture, you should know the proper vocabulary. Here is the vocabulary connected with the living room and bathroom.
Curtains - a piece of material, especially cloth, that hangs across a window or opening to make a room or part of a room dark or private
Armchair - a comfortable chair with sides that support your arms
Sofa - a long, soft seat with a back and usually arms, on which more than one person can sit at the same time
Carpet - (a shaped piece of) thick material used for covering floors
Coffee table - a small, low table on which coffee is served or books and magazines are arranged
CD player - a machine that is used for playing music CDs
Hi-fi system - electronic equipment used to play recorded sound, especially music
TV set - a device shaped like a box with a screen that receives electrical signals and changes them into moving images and sound
Remote control - a piece of equipment that you hold in your hand and use to control a television, DVD player, etc.
Fireplace - a space in the wall of a room for a fire to burn in, or the decorated part that surrounds this space
Shower - a device that releases drops of water through a lot of very small holes and that you stand under to wash your whole body
Bath - a long plastic, metal, or ceramic container that is filled with water so that you can sit or lie in it to wash your whole body
Mirror - a piece of glass with a shiny, metal-covered back that reflects light, producing an image of whatever is in front of it
Towel - a piece of cloth or paper used for drying someone or something that is wet
Towel rail - a horizontal bar on the wall, or a frame with a horizontal bar, used to hang towels on
Washbasin - a bowl that is attached to the wall in a bathroom or near a toilet and has pipes to supply and carry away water, in which you wash your hands, face, etc.
Toilet - a bowl-shaped device with a seat that you sit on or stand near when emptying the body of urine or solid waste
Examples:
Heavy curtains blocked out the sunlight.
Have you seen the remote control for the TV anywhere?
She swept the ashes from the fireplace.
We have a heated towel rail in our bathroom.
